WELC Executive Nihongo Solutions

Have a nationally certified Japanese language teacher as your personal coach.

As of April 2024, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Japan has established a new national qualification for Japanese language teachers called "Registered Japanese Language Teacher" (登録日本語教員 Tooroku Nihongo Kyooin.) This certification is now the only officially recognized qualification for Japanese language instructors in Japan.

*All WELC instructors, including Miki sensei (Miki Sasaki,) are certified as Registered Japanese Language Teachers. You can trust in the quality of our lessons and content.

Key Points to Remember

1. Official Recognition: Only those who hold this new qualification can be considered certified Japanese language teachers in Japan.

2. Exclusive Title: Individuals without this certification are not permitted to use the title "Certified Japanese Language Teacher" in Japan.

3. Quality Assurance: This new system aims to improve the overall quality of Japanese language education and ensure that instructors meet specific standards.

What This Means for Learners

When choosing a Japanese language school or instructor, it's crucial to verify their credentials. Here's what you should know:

  • Accredited Schools: From April 2024, Japanese language schools must be accredited by MEXT to accept international students on full-time student visas.

  • Qualified Teachers: These accredited schools are required to employ only Registered Japanese Language Teachers.

  • Transition Period: There is a five-year grace period for current teachers to obtain the new qualification.

How to Verify

To ensure you're receiving instruction from a certified professional:

1. Ask if your instructor holds the "Registered Japanese Language Teacher" qualification.

2. Check if your language school is accredited by MEXT for accepting international students on full-time student visas.

This new system is designed to enhance the quality of Japanese language education and protect the interests of learners. By choosing certified instructors and accredited schools, you can be more confident in the standard of education you receive.

Remember, while there may be many skilled Japanese language instructors, only those with this new qualification can officially call themselves "Certified Japanese Language Teachers" in Japan from 2024 onward.
