As of April 2024, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Japan has established a new national qualification for Japanese language teachers called "Registered Japanese Language Teacher" (登録日本語教員 Tooroku Nihongo Kyooin.)
