Lesson Examples from Our Actual Sessions
1. Lessons with Zero Beginners to JLPT N5 Level Students
We address questions arising from homework or other inquiries from daily life. (We recommend taking screenshots or notes whenever something feels unclear in your daily life to make it easier for us to address your questions.) Depending on the student, we use textbooks written in either romaji or kana.
While many Japanese language schools assume students can already read hiragana and katakana and proceed with kana-based textbooks, at WELC, we focus on oral communication. Although we support kana acquisition, our lessons prioritize maximizing students’ speaking opportunities during class time.
Our lessons are not driven solely by textbooks. Instead, we tailor the program to incorporate vocabulary relevant to each student and encourage them to construct and speak their own sentences. These sessions are conducted in a relaxed and supportive environment, fostering confidence in communication.
2. Lessons with JLPT N4 Level and Above Students
・Reading online articles and discussing current events to enhance understanding and engagement.
・Watching YouTube videos or listening to podcasts followed by Q&A sessions and discussions.
・Practicing essential workplace or daily scenarios (using English model dialogues) by expressing these situations in Japanese with familiar vocabulary. There is no single “correct” answer. Each student is encouraged to use their own expressions. We repeat the practice until students can naturally use the phrases outside of class.
In every session, we go beyond simply covering textbook material. We always include one or two additional tasks like the examples above. Our lessons are far from monotonous, making 55 minutes pass by in a flash. They are engaging and enjoyable.
Our philosophy is to connect the dots and form lines, strengthening those lines into firm, unshakable confidence in speaking. The program is structured so that 80% of the time is dedicated to student speech, while instructor input is limited to about 20%.
