Why Years in Japan Did Not Add Up to Japanese
This is not a failure of effort. Most people in this position learned Japanese the way it came to them: a word at dinner, a phrase from the children, an expression heard so often that it stuck. That Japanese is real. But it arrives in fragments, with nothing underneath to hold the fragments together.
Textbooks and apps start from zero, so they feel too slow. Real conversation moves too fast, so you stay quiet. And the years pass in between.
I have taught a number of people in exactly this position. The pattern is almost always the same — and so is what finally changes it.
Connecting the Dots
In the first lesson, we find out what you already know. It is usually far more than you expect.
From there, each lesson connects what you have to the structure underneath it: how a sentence is put together, why the same word changes shape, how to say the thing you have been wanting to say for years. We do not start again from the beginning. We start from you.
Dots become lines. Lines become conversation.
By the tenth lesson, you will be able to hold simple conversations in your own words — not single words, but sentences you built yourself. And you will know how to keep learning without a teacher.

Finding what you already know A relaxed conversation and a level check. We map the words and expressions you already have, and the situations you most want to handle.
Before Lesson 2

Lessons 2 to 9
Connecting Each lesson takes a real situation — the family dinner, a phone call with your in-laws, a conversation with your children, a visit to Japan — and builds the structure you need to handle it yourself.
After every lesson
Your digital flashcards arrive The words and expressions from each lesson, sent to you as a flashcard set, so a few minutes of review keeps them from slipping away.
Lesson 10 — Your own conversation, and your plan
We put it all together. You leave with a written study plan for what comes next, so the progress does not stop when the lessons do.

Lesson Times — Evenings in North America
Lessons take place on Japanese weekday mornings and daytime, which is Sunday to Thursday evening in North America.
Eastern Time Sessions from 7:00 PM Pacific Time Sessions from 4:00 PM (One hour earlier from November to March.)
Other time zones fall in between. Once you enroll, I will confirm the available times in your own time zone.
Changes and cancellations are accepted up to one hour before your lesson.

No. Depending on what suits you, we use a course book in romaji or in Japanese script. Reading is not a condition for starting.

Apps and textbooks start from zero and assume nothing. This course starts from the Japanese you already have, and connects it. That is the part you cannot do on your own.
Yes. A spouse or another family member can enroll and pay, and give it to you as a gift card — for the holidays, a birthday, or an anniversary. You choose when to start: your first lesson can be any time within six months of purchase, and the five months of validity begin from that first lesson.
